Kitchen Cabinet Trends

I’ve been gathering lots of kitchen inspiration images lately and thinking about which recent kitchen trends I would be happy to see continue in 2020. From natural wood cabinets to dark countertops, I’ve seen a lot less all-white kitchens in the past few years. Although a white kitchen will always be a classic, it’s refreshing to see a variety of styles gaining popularity and mixing things up. Here’s a roundup of some of my favorite recent kitchen cabinetry trends.

Natural wood cabinets have made a huge comeback over the last few years. The white oak cabinetry look can work in both clean-lined, modern kitchens and in more traditional spaces. If you’re going to go for the natural wood cabinetry look, getting the stain color exactly right is SO important, so make sure you work with an experienced cabinet maker and sample finishes until you find the perfect one (or hire a designer!).

Dark painted cabinetry with dark stone countertops is a moody look I’m very into at the moment. This look might be too bold for some people in their kitchen; if you’re more into a light and bright kitchen, the dark and moody look is also perfect for a butler’s pantry or bar area.

“Greige” (a color somewhere in between grey and beige) has become my go-to color lately for kitchen cabinets. It’s soft, warm and looks fabulous with Calacatta gold marble or light grey soapstone countertops, as seen in the examples below. It also pairs nicely with almost any hardware finish — greige is definitely a fave that will continue into 2020!
